Maria Ahmed is a Registered Psychotherapist with nearly 10 years of experience in the mental-health field and 5.5 years in private practice, specializing in trauma, addictions, and complex family systems. Known for her grounding presence and emotionally attuned style, Maria helps individuals, couples, and families build self-awareness, strengthen boundaries, and reconnect with the parts of themselves that have long been silenced or overwhelmed.
Maria’s clinical foundation began in rehabilitation centres supporting individuals with addictions and co-occurring disorders, where she gained deep experience working with crisis, relapse cycles, emotional regulation challenges, and the intersection between trauma and substance use. Her approach integrates Somatic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Upon request, she also incorporates Islamic or Christian perspectives, offering culturally and spiritually aligned care.
Through The Breathing Space Therapy, Maria provides holistic, evidence-based psychotherapy within an environment designed to honour safety, compassion, and autonomy. She is currently completing her Clinical PsyD at California Southern University and remains active in community education, addictions programming, and developing innovative workshops rooted in somatic healing and trauma-informed practice.
Clients describe Maria as present, honest, and deeply supportive—someone who holds space with both gentleness and clarity, guiding them to move from survival toward meaningful growth and emotional freedom.
